I'm a cheap skate as well except when it comes to fishing gear. With that I'm a bit of a sucker since I like trying new tactics and baits.

I try to keep it relatively simple , all them expensive tricky high end things that could possibly cause me to not ketch fish typically get sidelined,
roll up, park the truck , walk to the water , pitch the jig , set the hook ......there are other methods to hammer crappie for sure .....
but I rarely employ them
