Well this is gonna be a long one. I was fishing last Saturday at 8 mile creek. Fished almost all day. Didn’t catch a fish. Well my mother calls and said she had fell. Said she was hurt and couldn’t get up. So I paddled back to the put in fast as I can. There are a few people on here that know how much work it is to get your kayak up the bank. So trying to hurry and get to her I leave it. This is around 4:30. By the time I get her situated it’s dark. I go back before 7 the next morning and of course it’s gone. There were a couple guys there fishing in a small plastic boat. Of course that made me wonder. I started posting on all the local fishing pages for people to be on the look out for it. Yesterday I get friend request on Facebook. Normally I just delete them. But I noticed this guy was from the area. So I accepted it. Just a couple minutes later I get a message saying he is the guy that was fishing in the boat. Before he said anything he showed proof that he had been trying to find me. He said they had moved up and was fishing around where the yak was. Some crack head looking guy walked up and asked if that was there kayak. The guy said yes to keep him from getting it. They loaded it up and took it with them and immediately started trying to find me. They luckily saw my post on the catoma lake page. I thought for sure it was gone for good. Had my brand new rod holders on it. Paddle. And well over $100 dollars in plastics and tackle. Thankful these guys were there and did the right thing. If not it would have been long gone. Just makes me feel good to know there are still some good people out there.

That’s a good story to hear. Nice knowing there are still good folks around besides the ones on cdc. Most importantly, how is your mom?
She was a little sore. But she’s okay. She’s 83 and works constantly. Moving furniture around and lifting. Can’t tell her anything. Lol

I saw your post on the Catoma page and was hoping you would luck out. I think if I was in the same position as those guys and had the means to load it up and take it with me, I would do the same as well and then try to get back with you. Seems like in todays day and age if something sits there too long someone will grab it for sure with no intent of returning it. You may want to put your contact info in the yak in the future. I'd put it clearly visible somewhere and then in a hidden area in case its stolen and recovered. Do kayaks have serial numbers for law LEOs to go by? Could also put an apple air tag in it.

They do have numbers. I had a pic of it but it was deleted or I couldn’t find it. But that’s a good idea. That’s the only place I’ve ever left it. But now I’ve found a much better out in. So hopefully I’ll never have to leave it again.

Good post I’m glad that ended positively for you. Getting a kayak stole would be a heart sinking feeling. Yes I’m one of the guys who understands how long it can take to load a kayak but it’s worth it.

This place isn’t your normal load. Lol. Only way to get in is down this long, really steep bank. No problem down. But with an 80lb yak it’s some real work getting back up. But there’s very little pressure because very few will do the work to fish it. But last few trips have been a bust so it’s not worth the work. And almost losing my yak.

Glad to hear you got it back. I had seen your post on the Cullman Kayak Anglers page and the Catoma page.
