Good post bro….i took my live imaging off our boat.

Probably bluegill fry from the third spawn of the year. When you see that it's time to break out the little jigs and then it's Kaboom time.

Great topic Ketchn! Some of us still use our common sense fishing abilities.
Sometimes it’s hard, but just by looking what’s around you that nature offers can put more fish and game in the boat and in your hands. It’s called paying attention.

I just taught a 7 year old yesterday how to do that . I hope the picture shows up. Not sure how to add photo yet.
Taken him and his Dad. They have a small aluminum boat with no electronics. They mainly fish small local lakes fishing and some stock ponds is where they go. I had never been in this small private lake so it was new to me as they asked me to go to teach them how to catch crappie. We didn’t even know if they were any in this lake.
We first looked for available bait in and around water. We then got in my boat, put old rod and reel out with treble hook and behold found some brush after trolling and casting for about 15 minutes. Looked at the lay of the lake found what looked to be a point that came out in the water with sharp dropped off edges. Then figured out the top of brush was about 6 foot deep. Set fishing depth of that. He caught a nice crappie under cork with neutral color jig about 12.5 inches long. Then I dropped out LiveScope to show them what we were fishing in. It was loaded. The only problem, it taken a bit to do the old fashioned way and rain hit in less than an hour after finding them. But I wanted to teach them the basics. I wanted to teach them you could do this without expensive electronics. We also dropped markers at each end of the very small brush.
He caught I think 8 crappie and two bluegill you couldn’t get your hand around. Got crappie ranging from 15.5 inch’s down to 11 inches in less than an hour. They are hooked. It’s all possible without electronics using a little common sense of fishing.

Thank you for a reminder of simpler times silverroach. I'm sure that dad and young man are thankful as well. The smile on his face says he's hooked for life. Growing up from the late 50's, and dad in the Marines, with 3 siblings, when dad took us fishing it was from the bank, and those trips weren't too often. Electronic's as we know today were non-existent, except on ships. So when I got into fishing after joining the military myself, a small rental aluminum boat was the norm, if one was used. The same system was deployed, only a heavy sinker was deployed with no hook, to find brush and or depth....

somewhere along the way, mankind has strayed terribly far away from the old school approach to a lot of things .....
my self personally is into casting my offering out there and trying to dupe a fish into biting my offer .....
I was forever a fan of live bait over artificial bait , but fell totally in love with pitching jigs a while back .....
keeping it simple and less complicated makes for a better experience for me .....
having to worry about all the new advances in technology and the stuff to maintain and remember to bring and get ready to use ,is mind boggling....
I go ketch fish to un-boggle my mind ,,,,,just saying

WAY back when ,before they had good sonar , we sank brush piles in the middle of creek channels in coves on big lakes .....
before we dropped it we tied 20 lb mono to it about 3 feet longer than the depth or so .....
then we put a small pc. of varnished wood from a tree on the end ....stealth buoy for sure ....
about a week would pass and.....
then we would launch our lil flat bottom right off the bank in the close vicinity and paddle to the other side of the cove .....
tie off with a LONG rope and paddle back to our launch , the tie off again .....
then pull ourselves back out to right above our lil wood buoy and draw them ropes tight and tie em off ....
we would then go to dunking cut up live minnows on bare jigheads into said brush ....
sure did kill HERDS of them that way and not a soul, but me and my buds had a clue what we were doing to ketch so many crappie
pretty easy , 2 paddles , 2 long ropes , and a flat bottom and a bakers dozen live minnows in a minnow bucket ....and a LONG rope stringer ....and then ....
KABOOM

Funny how they been hammering 1/8 oz jig heads with a Walmart sack tied on all summer here .
