Correct me if I am wrong but test poundage is what is rated for. Most have a line diameter on the package. I hear some ads saying something like 20 lb test with 6 lb mono diameter. Braids are stronger than mono of same diameter .

I知 confused about how to shop for braided fishing line. If the spool says 6lb, is that the breaking point of the line, or is that the equivalent diameter of 6lb mono? If it痴 the equivalent diameter, how do I determine the breaking strength?
I知 confused ??*????*??

You need to look at the diameter of the line on the US market. Very, very few lines in the US market actually break at their rated strength. Most US market lines break way above the rating. Here is a chart that if you know the diameter of the line it will give you the actual breaking strength. This over rating of lines started somewhere around the early 70's. You can thank the bass fishing world for that. For years now I have been getting my lines out of Japan. But a couple of years back Varivas....a site sponsor.....brought their lines to the US market. Their lines break at what is stated on the packaging.....plus some for the finest fishing line made.
