    Default Fishing line size

I’m sure this is ford Chevy ram Toyota type subject but I’m gonna ask anyway.

I have some Walmart casting rods medium action with some older bait caster reels I’m using for trolling cranks. Running bandit 200/300’s. Will 8lb Mr crappie line be ok for this? I know it’s probably not the best but it’s what I have. Will be able to depth at 1.0-1.5 mph with this setup? I have a couple charts to go by.

I like to use 12lb trilene big game, it has the same diameter as 10lb trilene xt so the depth charts/apps still work. It comes in bright green too which is a plus

8lb will allow you to go a little deeper, although I currently use 10lb mono for pulling my crankbaits. I still might lose one per trip if the drag settings are wrong, although when drag settings are good on my reels, I can usually swing the boat back over the snag and save the crankbait.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

I like 12 lb P Line fluorocarbon that I get at Wal Mart…it runs well and hasn’t given me any problems in 2 years.

I forgot to add that I use a combo of Vicious and H2OX Hi vis lines to have two different colors and pattern them every other so that it is easier to help decipher tangles or prevent them.

Yes that is definitely something I will/want to do. Thanks guys. I think I will get something 10/12# range to use.

I use the same Mr crappie 8lb line and have not had any issues. The biggest thing I will say is make a braid leader to keep the catfish from stealing your cranks. I make a leader with a barrel swivel on one end and a swivel clip on the other with 20lb braid.

I'm not a fan of a reel that has to used with the right hand. Lefties are hard to find or cost a bit more. A guy on craigslist offered 8 BPS Power Max low profile right handers for $100 and I bit hard. I put 120 yards of Power Pro #12 on each, add a 4 ft leader of 8# mono on a 12, 14, 16 ft rod. They were packed up for our move and I haven't looked for them since.
