Orange jig!

Found another fish with a very similar wound in the same location I found the other one , it only had 2 visible marks and one was faint . but this one had that same sliced thing going on, only to a much lesser degree .....
I know folks said the last one was a trolling motor wound and I thought maybe so , but they are in the exact same locations on the fish and I am pretty sure some type of predator is doing this .
my money goes to a gar , thought the first time that was the deal, but I was talked out of it , that spot has pretty big gar in big numbers in the summer time and I have seen similar wounds on crappie in the past at that spot over the years .

Not sure but we have those same marks here and I don't think we have many gar around. My guess some type of bird. I see it regularly around spawn time too.

I agree that it’s probably an attack from a cormorant or some other bird. I’ve seen gar bites, even had a few myself! Usually, you can make out 2 rows of teeth in the bite pattern.

Gotta be da birds.
might be so , but there just ain't lots around currently . herons yes , but not any cormorants and very few fish raptors
whatever is striking them seems to be hitting them from the under side as well ....
no upper body wounds like you typically see with bird strikes ?![]()

Snapping turtles maybe? They've stolen crappie off stringers before from me, more than once.
