Had the UL session saver today on 6/29. Came in from bass fishing as the last boat and always try to be respectful and get out as fast as possible when that happens. Dock worker that I've known 20+ years said feel free to fish a bit since it wasn't super late yet. Fishing on the lake was rough, so me and my buddies took him up on it. My pals got into more bass action than we had seen in hours and I packed the car and came back with just 1 bait rigged up. Dropped down 11 times and pitched a perfect game until my plastic was destroyed. 6 chunk bluegill, 5 chunk crappie. First day with no bass on the UL. Bluegill weren't messing around today, grabbing my jig half the time before it could enter the crappie zone. Super fun way to end the day.
May have to make a solo dock trip tomorrow. Bluegill are always on the chew here, but the crappie is by far the best it's been in probably 20 years. And while I always get a decent amount of bass, the number is unusually high this year. I've loved UL for a long time but this has been one of the more special seasons for sure.
I’m having a pretty good year also. My friend Nino is a little over a year into this and I’m enjoying seeing the light come on as he perfects different presentations and gear. He’s very enthusiastic. I had an excellent year last year so that will be a tough one to top but things are looking up. If I could get more time I’d be all set.
