    Default Antique fishing gear

I still have some of those but also the yellow Humminbird models that slide together to stack up. Those are still within reach any time I’m at the console or bow seats.

I go well back to the Lowrance green box flashers. I still have my Granddaddy’s.

My boat was where many bass and crappie fishermen learned how amazing the paper graph units were. The picture on those was amazing when one took the time to learn how to set them up.

Going back to the H markers, one of my paper graphs beeped a lot due to how I had it tuned. I would be checking structure to crappie and bass fish and folks 100 yards away could hear it. I finally got to where my 1st marker dropped was ALWAYS a decoy, placed well away from anything I wanted to fish. More times than not, other boats would rush to where I dropped that marker. Often I would almost have to push other boats off my decoy marker to retrieve it. Thankfully, as high-end electronics have become more affordable, more folks now have good electronics and a basic idea how to use them. Crowding isn’t the issue it used to be where I do most of my fishing.

I carry a small beaver chewed piece of log with a flat 6 oz. weight & camo line that I still use as needed. I drilled holes and epoxied weights on the bottom side. It works great and nobody messes with it.

I had 4 of the yellow H floats. Three got stolen almost as fast as I set them out. A guy on a jet ski nabbed two of them for some reason?

Had a pair of the orange dumbell type with weighted bottoms that cracked, took on water, & sunk.

I've come across numerous inconspicuous fish markers over the years. My favorite was a half sunk mini-bobber. About 1" in diameter. I was almost on top of it before I spotted it. Originally, I thought it was trash and was going to remove it. Then I saw the tree full of fish and thought to myself. I'd like to meet the sly old dog who put this here? this guy knows what is going on. I caught a bunch of fish off that spot and left the marker just as I found it.

it never did make much sense to me to try to hide from passing boats in the times of killer electronics, some folks used to paint there markers here as well .
some folks would also not set the hook on fish when others were around and or ease them in the boat on the off side ....
I always figured if they were smart enough to realize what another boat was doing so still in the water with folks NOT casting and they were after crappie they would know what the deal was anyway and .....
then there was ME , 2 bright orange markers and hammering and slinging them no matter who was near me

WAY WAY back when about 40 years ago my trick was 20 lb test and a small pc. of wood varnished so it would not sink and tied to my brush when I sunk it , it worked really well and only the folks I showed or told new what was up , but that was WAY back when folks didnt have eyes in the water to see what was up ....

I still use one sometimes. Heck if you stay on one spot more than 15 minutes with the electronics these days, someone already has it pinned to check when you leave anyways. Might as well have a good visual on the surface while you fish. Mine is also flat black.

this ....used my nikon on recon yesterday ,,,,even at 1,000 yards it was obvious he was not a crappie person ....
standing on the front deck he was and holding really still , but ....making long casts with a bait caster gave him up ....
you can run ,but you cant hide these days for sure , optics are way better than back when as well ....
I was on the bank and watching from way far away , just saying ....
