Mixed bag of lil ones! Bodes well for the future

These days the word microfishing gets tossed around a lot, especially by video/fishermen on YouTube, I feel it’s somewhat diluted. To simply put the Japanese who introduced the very idea, when out microfishing, target specifically for fish species when full grown are not much bigger than 1 to 2 inches such as Darters, mosquitofish, Molly or their Tanago. What they considered trophy would be the smallest fish that is no longer than the width of a dime! Now that we are clear what it is let’s move on to the fishing story.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of NOT micro fishing but catching many micro-size fishes because at this time of post spawning, there are literally thousands of baby fishes can be seen around docks hiding and just simply trying not to be eaten by the adult fish. It’s a fun time every time when I simply not pressured into chasing bigger bluegills or green sunfish and just enjoy watching them hitting the bait once lowered into surface. Couple species caught including my first ever smallest channel cat taken on a jig/fly. Enjoy the pictures and tight line!

I don’t discriminate against size or species when it comes to to catching .
I keep getting lighter with my tackle .
Some of my short Tenkara rods are around an ounce .
I just got home from a micro fishing trip using a 7’ Tenkara rod . Had a great time catching 25 , mostly small bluegills, but had a warmouth and a green sunfish that joined in the fun .

I love the idea of it, Gillchaser. It pains me however that I can’t join in on the action living in the desert. I hope you have some streams or creeks at your neck of the woods where you can also venture out for other species of micro like the Darters, Mosquitofish, Shiners or like the Mexican Tetras I want to have pleasure of collecting out of the Guadalupe River in Texas.

I’m happy with catching the colorful juvenile fish of the area lakes and creeks around here .
I love seeing the different color combinations of the different locations , some from the same waters . The cross breeding that goes on between the different sunfishes make for some interesting colored fish .
I prefer to catch them on flies rather than pieces of worms, hotdogs or bread .
Every fish that I know of will eat bugs . I just need to learn to tie smaller flies![]()
