Thread: Wylie Spanked Me

I bet that bass was alot of fun on light tackle. The water cooling off so fast must have shut 'em down on Wylie. Today I saw 62 degrees. They'll be back biting full swing again very soon if we can get a few days that warm back-to-back. Stay after 'em.

That bass identified as a crappie so that means I got my 3+ pound crappie.

Watched MLF on lake wylie yesterday. I think they fished back n September. (bass) they struggled to catch any bass over 2lbs. Mostly all dink spots. Whats happened to that place? Used to be famous for nice largemouth.

I was there that day, yes it’s not the lake it use to be. I don’t see the bait I use to see. I catch more Spotted Bass than Largemouth when crappie fishin. I blame it on the perch but other lakes have them and they are still good. Just my guess.

Perch is part of the problem. Bass fishermen have to many tournaments both day and night. Lots of stress and when you pull them away from their young and carry them off to the weigh-in they never get back to protect the young ones, so they become a food source for all other fish. My co-worker bass fishes, and he has for a long time been saying the bass were gone in size. I hope it comes back for the bass guys, but it may take a while like it did for the crappies. JMO

I think you're right on the perch and lack of bait. Spots aren't going to help matters either, especially, if you see the population explosion like you have on lakes like Norman. Doesn't help fingerling recruitment either when you have Wake boats now pulling 2'+ wakes throughout the lake, washing out beds and damaging laying sites for fish starting in March and April.
