These were caught on griffin way back when the lake was pea soup.

Must be the reason most of mine are void of the prettier colors
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along

Neat post, I was guessing male/female first.
My lake is ultra clear and our fish are usually vivid.

I know why the colors are so different. Do you?

I think the top one is a frustrated and spurned boy fish who did not get to finish attracting the the bottom plain girl fish who was looking at his brand new tuxedo colors and admiring him when suddenly a hook was in her braces and she was being taken by net. Fortunately for them they met a kind gentleman who spared them from going to Lake Crisco and they were able to reunite and live for a few minutes before that scenario repeated itself and a very hungry fisherman believed in "Catch -n- grease instead of catch -n- release. You can't beat a dead horse and teach it to run again. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Water temps may have some influence, but water turbidity is the main reason fish will be "washed out" in some lakes.

Water depth. Top one in shallow water. Bottom in deep water.

It's all about the sunlight. 30 minutes in the live well and they will match
