Thread: SHEEZ BACK !

I feel ya' bro. I recently went to the shop to check out some strange popping and clunking noises under the front end of my 2008 Ford Explorer AWD Eddie Bauer Edition with 167,000 miles only to find out they recommended that it was time to redo the front end assembly to the tune of $1450.00. I wasn't all that much surprised by (either) the need for the repairs or the cost of the repairs, but compared to a new one... the cost of dropping the $1450.00 seems a whole lot more palatable to me.

The prices have went insane lately. I would hate to be on the hook for what they are asking for a new truck now. If the market goes stagnant and prices drop that would leave a fella in a awful mess of being way upside down on a truck

I drive em till they die…or get very close. In December bought a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac……..put 315 thousand miles on it in 8 years towing a boat. Sold it in 2008. Bought a Nissan Versa in 2008 as gas went to 4 bucks a gallon…..no more boat then but put 266 thousand miles on it pulling a Malone kayak trailer usually with 2 kayaks on board. It died in late 2013. Purchased a 2014 Ford Escape. It now has 221 thousand miles on it……180 thousand of those miles towing a boat. The one thing they all had in common was maintenance…….if the manual called for it, it got done. If the Escape dies now not sure what I will do. There are 2 vehicles that I would want but you can’t find either of them around here due to extremely low inventory…..and if you do find one you will have to pay MSRP. I have lived long enough to know better than to use the word “Never”…..but I sure would hate to pay MSRP on a vehicle. But I can’t see myself giving up fishing for 6-10 months because I don’t want to pay up.

in these parts it is like real estate , the window price is where it starts and then it goes only up .
i hear tell locally folks are paying higher than window price , just like our real estate .

yes sir , mine started sounding like sanford and sons pick up coming down the road . squeaking and clunking and it started as it needs new shocks , those particular coil over off road factory versions run right at 500 a pair without installation and they are not like the days of old , you take the front end apart and have to have it aligned and etc after install . that cost was almost 800 by itself , then the tune up was in the area of 750 because it needed the intake removed and cleaned and on and on it went . the cam sensors were also failing along with another sensor and then they took the front end down and all the upper and lowers were done and the etc etc as well .
it was sad news to hear 3,000 ,but there is an upside , she is quiet and stupid perky once again and my guy says she could last a pretty long time , fingers are crossed as i type

she got her first new brakes last year at 180,000 , i forgot about that btw
