No one guides for free, there is CLEARLY money to be made, because there are so MANY DOING IT.
Your fishing a Corp lake that is maintained for flood control and RECREATION..... If you want to operate a BUSINESS there are, or should be rules/fees/ insurance that is required.......
Lastly, what folks do usually doesn’t bother me until it AFFECTS ME....thanks to the internet, the big four are covered up with guides, and yes it’s an ADDITIONAL BURDEN to all recreational fishermen....
Additionally this website has been used by some....or ONE to create business for himself......

I’m done, thinking of going fishing Guides

To my knowledge, the Corps in MS has never had a problem with guides. And they have never been a burden on me!

The guides here are not only helpful to their clients but to the rest of us that are less learned. They won't tell you exactly where but I have had many at the landing tell me how deep, how fast and what color, without me paying them. Thanks to all of them.

Lol. Not me either. Just saying the opportunity is there for anyone. I’d probably get about 7 first time clients. Then the word would get out and not another booking Guides

I figure it like this, we have Biologist that study these lakes on a continuing basis, we have Fish and Wildlife people who study these lakes all the time and we have Corps of Engineers people who watch these lake constantly. That’s what we as tax payers are paying them for. If it’s not a issue for any one of them then it shouldn’t be a issue for any of us. I fail to understand how those guys could possibly be a burden to anyone. They buy fuel, food, register boats shop locally live locally and pay taxes just like I do. Plus the bring in no telling how much revenue to local merchants in the are with hotel, restaurant, camping, food sales all those a celery things most people never think about especially the ones who just get on a thread like this to stir up mess. And no I don’t guide and have no desire to. Know to much about how much work these guys put in for their customers.

Just my 2 cents, I have hired guides on a couple of occasions when fishing a lake for the first time. Once was very informative and the other not so much. Turns out he was a bass fisherman with a tournament coming up and begged me to go bass fishing instead of Crappie to prefish his tournament on my dime. As far as guiding of Corps lakes, in my opinion, why is that any different than hiring a hunting guide to put you on deer or calling turkeys or ducks on public hunting land? The way I figure, you are paying a guide for his knowledge, the use of his equipment and time and/or the convenience of not having to bring your boat a long distance. I agree with those who said we are already regulated to death.

It is illegal for anyone to profit from property owned by the federal government except the ones granted specific permission from the government. Say what you want, but when a guide charges their customers to guide them on federal waters that is a violation of federal law and I cannot understand why the law isn't enforced. I realize the guide's customers add money to the local economy, but it is still in violation of the law. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, that wasn't my intent.
The Corps lakes are Federal Property.....but they are open to the public....and the fish belong to everybody.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Speck I’m not sure where u can hire a guide to take you deer or duck hunting on public ground around here. That’s highly frowned upon by me green jeans. And those boys out west pay a pretty penny to get permits to guide on federal lands. Glad these boys can do it for free but it doesn’t work like that when it comes to hunting

Something to keep in mind guys, a trip to the lake is 100 dollar bill on average. Tear up anything or loose baits or tackle and there goes more of it.
By the way I heard of some guides losing some serious equipment in the storm at Sardis yesterday.
Not everything is as it seems, if it were easy there would be way more doing it.
I couldn’t put up with some of the clientele you have to deal with lol
