    Default Brim Sinker Bottom Fishing

What style sinker other than split shot would help from getting hung up when fishing a hook and worm or night crawler on the bottom.

Here you go...best I’ve ever used. I cut the small one in half and singe the nylon sleeve so it holds the shot inside after cutting. I’ve never hung one of these up in the rocks. Made by a guy on the site here.

Snake n da brush - Podunk (po dungk) A small isolated town, region, or place that is regarded as unimportant. . . .

I have some of those. Forgot about them. Not sure of what weights I have left. I lost a lot of them crappie fishing. How are you tieing the part you cut off or are you using them as a drop shot rig?

Always have your weight on the bottom of your main line. Never above the hook, unless you are fishing for bass with a plastic worm, (split shotting). I use a medium sized split shot below the hook that is up 1 to 2 feet above the weight. It's a modified drop shot rig. Instead of having the hook tied directly to the main line, I have it out on a short 10 to 12 inch leader of the same weight as my main line (2 to 4 lb test). I use this primarily as a bait rig while moving along slowly in a float tube or boat. If you get the split shot hung up, just pull on the line and the weight will just slide off. Split shots are cheap.

I've always used it as a drop shot setup...mostly fishing a TM in 30 feet of water. I have also used it in the winter with live bait fishing rip rap in a tailrace with huge success.

I’m dumb with live bait, just don’t do much of it. I’m learning here too.

Ditto. Except I make my own out of paracord sheathing and lead BB’s. So easy to make.

Why on the bottom of the main line? Generally if I'm using bait, I use a slider sinker then swivel then 12" or so to the hook. I think it's called a Carolina rig.

The "drop shot" rig with the weight on the bottom is a "finesse" rig. Finesse techniques were developed to increase the sensitivity to the bite. When you are using a Carolina rig the fish can move the bait around for short distances without you feeling it. When you have the weight on the bottom and the hook tied directly to the main line you will have more feel on the bite. You want just enough weight on the rig to be able to maintain contact with the bottom. The usual method is to have the hook tied about 12 to 15 inches above the weight. Throw out and let it sink to the bottom. Take up the slack. Watch the line and also feel the tap. Set the hook if you feel movement or see the line move. Move the bait a few feet if no bite in 15 or 20 seconds. This rig can also be used to advantage on straight down fishing.

Fishing a drop shot rig on a high end Ajing rod takes the fun level off the charts.
