My experience : it has lots of crappie - lots of small crappie.

Actually, I'd say the average is about 8" which isn't as small an average as what I've found at Bullock Pen, for example. But, I don't think I've ever caught a crappie that was 10". They were pretty much all around that 8" mark. I don't think there's any size restrictions. They know they are stunted.

They did take a bunch of crappie out a few years back and took them to Taylorsville. I do wonder if this had any impact on the good reports I've heard from Taylorsville. Of course, I haven't been to Boltz since Fall 2015 so maybe they are bigger now. If you go, let us know.

I've also done better in the upper half of the lake than near the dam, for what it's worth.

Resurrecting an old thread here but for those in N.KY, I have fished Boltz 2x in the last month. Mainly trolling (or trying to) both times with jigs. Crappie situation seems to have changed a bit. I didn't catch many either time. This time of year they are scattered and were tough to find. But nice thing is the size has improved. I caught only 4 the other day but they were all whites between 10-11". Before that, caught some smaller ones but also a few in that 10-11" range.

Not sure it's worth the trip if you're not already close but anyway...

Thanks for the update, mbk !!

Maybe when the water/air temps cool down and the kids are back in school (or the resident boat riders are busy doing other things) ... then maybe the fishing on Boltz Lake will pick back up.

Were you aware of this page ?? : Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (couple of links worthy of note - one showing brush piles with GPS coords and one showing a map with contours) The "Fishing Forecast" link does indicate that the Bluegill & Crappie are improving somewhat in size.

Thanks. Yes. I read that at the beginning of the year. Come to think of it, I did catch a pretty nice gill too. I would like to catch a Saugeye. Don't know how abundant they are.

Yeah, according to the Forecast link ... Saugeye are still "Fair" after 3yrs of stocking them.

Speaking of Saugeye .... I just recently heard that Saugeye were stocked in Taylorsville, like maybe a couple of years ago. Found out it's true this past Spring :
