Having made a living looking thru a windshield for over 25 years, nothing that happens on the road surprises me. Sorry to hear about the misfortune, and glad it wasn't worse. Remember Roadhouse; we didn't sweep up any eyeballs so it was a good night. That applies. Everything can be fixed or replaced. I always wondered why my heavy glass boat had a backup cable. Thanks for the lesson, I now understand why. Hope the insurance folks don't hurt your feelings too bad.

I hope they do. I had a similar bad deal once but it turned out no damage to the boat or trailer. The trailer came loose from the ball (couldn't have been latched correctly), ground the safety chains into (they were too long). Middle lane on I-75 (3 lanes) headed south on the Clays Ferry bridge, boat and trailer went across the interstate, into the emergency lane, traveled along the concrete bridge wall, when at the end of the bridge the trailer fender hit the guard rail where it attaches to the bridge wall and bent the fender down and acted as a brake. Put a small dent in the boat fender and scuffed the front right side of the boat. It was amazing pouring rain and driving 70 I wouldn't believe it if I wasn't there. We pulled into the emergency lane hooked the trailer up straightened the fender the best we could reattached the safety chains and went fishing. Extremely lucky that day. I did not have insurance so I called my auto insurance agent (Kentucky Farm Bureau) and he said they would not cover anything that is towed. He said there is no way to know if I will have $200 boat, $80,000 camper trailer etc. You may want to check with your agents.

So sorry to hear about your loss! Here in MA, a safety chain is required on all boat trailers. Cheap insurance.
