Default Active USAF here. Moving to Sumter area next month.

Anyone in the local area? Can someone give me the lay of the land? I know Lake Marion is close by. Looks massive and daunting haha.

Background: Grew up in Alabama fishing the Coosa River and some lakes in the central Alabama area. Currently in Fort Worth, Texas and loving the Brazos river and the 30 or so lakes in an hour drive from my house. I’ve also got a 12 Ft fishing kayak with a DI fish finder.

    Matt,

Welcome to SC.... you'll have plenty of place to fish, Santee (Marion, Moultrie) included about same distance from Sumter you'll have Wateree, coming into thru Columbia you have lake Murray, nice kayak Rimini swamp side of Santee will be a good place to use that. I'd look up or @ for a kayak club there some @ I don't fish in them but I've taken several military folks and that seem to be all the rage now and where ever you're going they may have a club to join... fishing will be good at any mentioned.
    If you don't get hung every-once-n-a-while you ain't jigg'n it right..:D

aboard Thanks for your service! You'll find you have many directions to go to fish as said. Hope you get settled in and holler out when your ready to go some where and fish. Someone will help you out I'm sure. Micorp will be your man to go to in Sumter he is stationed there too. Hope all goes well with the move and Sumter will suit you with it's offerings. Looking forward to meeting you at one of our get events.

Yes i can help. I will send you my cell, i am stationed at shaw until the fall at the earliest. Upper lake marion has been difficult simply due to so much structure to sift through to find crappie. Ive had a few good outings there, but focus efforts on wateree. You also need to hit clarks hill in the spring. Thats my favorite lake. Just hit me up when you arrive and will go from there. Tim
