Thread: Hartwel.

I am sorry, I have never fished Hartwell.

It may have been the conditions not the area you were fishing. I do a lot more striper fishing than crappie but my friends that crappie fish a lot were having a really tough time with the up and down weather the last couple of weeks. But last Friday with a few steady warm days they turned on for them. They were casting curly tail grubs to the banks keeping the boat in about 10 feet of water casting into about 3 feet. There are plenty of creeks on the Togaloo side that are known for crappie. My advice would be to look for stained water, it warms up much faster and the bait and crappie flood into it.

Like 91tiger said all the creek arms on the Togaloo can and will hold crappie. You didn't state what ramp you used so it is hard to know you location while on the water and where you have tried to find them. Seems brush piles and casting is the way to fish Hartwell this year so fishing the banks would be the best bet for getting the family on some fish on some of the back waters, maybe the pleasure boaters wont make the day a hard one in the toon. Sorry ,we put in at Tugaloo campground then went around past party island to the left under the I-85 bridge.tried minnows and jigs . Thanks for any help

Lots of creeks on the tugaloo, find one with some dirty water and start there, I have been catching in less than 8 fow recently in back of creeks. Hartwell has produced very well for me this year longlining.

Gumlog creek by Tugaloo State Park is a good creek to fish. They probably weren't biting well that day. Minnows and jigs are good, but you have to stay on the move when trying to catch them. If they aren't biting in a spot within a few minutes, go try another. Go to the backs of the creeks where it is shallow and fish in pockets you can see, grass, or downed trees lying in the water. Also, eastanolle and choestoea creeks are good as well.
