Thread: Trojan Batteries

I think it depends on use and care of your batteries. The deeper you discharge them and the longer they stay discharged will greatly affect battery life. Catfan my come along and better explain that as he was an engineer for a battery company. I run the Trojan 1275's on my boat for the past three years and I'd buy another set tomorrow. I've never ran them down no matter how I'm fishing. Take a look at the reserve capacity on the 1275's and know that Trojan doesn't cook their numbers on the R/C. Another factor on lead batteries is the weight as the more lead and acid it contains, the longer it will last. The Trojans are over 90 lbs each. Just my two cents. Lol

I had an Blue Top Optima go bad on me 15 months after purchasing it. I got credit for the battery, but I was told by 2 different stores that Optima is no longer the battery company they once were.
For my cranking and accessory battery I run a huge group 31 series deep cycle. But I have the Trojan 1275's for my trolling motor. These batteries should last any fisherman with many many years of trouble free service if taken care of properly. They are heavy and expensive, but worth their weight in gold!
In short, Optima can't compete with Trojan cart batteries, period.

I've had the same optima blue for 7 years, cant attest to the new ones. I will buy again tho.

I won't have anything but the cart batts, I use US Battery because of a little bit better reserve but have no doubt the Trojans will do a great job.
This set I have right now are over 4 years old and show no sign of not making another year.

John what are the dimensions on those cart batteries? I’m running 27s and they do well unless I’m pulling all day in a stiff wind. I hate reeling up and motoring back to start another run

would have to look but they are bigger than 27's for sure. think the footprint is the same as most 31s but they are taller, an inch or so.
