I have one for my 17' Key West, but frankly find it to be a pita when fishing, so i removed it.
It would depend a lot on the individual user and their preferred fishing method.
I like the freedom of moving about in the boat, and for me that trumps the protection the thing offers.
I do have a beach umbrella in front, but i don't often use that either, and it can be folded down.
I would personally try that first, rather than invest in a bimini. They are cheap, easy to install and can be moved to different locations on the boat. Make sure you have a line attached so they don't blow away, because they will, and you wont always get them back.

Get an eight foot one with 4 top bows that is tall enough you can walk under it. You won't be disappointed.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

+1on spindle's comment. I have a 8 foot that is 60" tall on our Alumacraft Competitor 165 cs. We enjoy the heck out of it, i'm 6'2 and walk under the Bimini with about 4" to spare. We purchased it from Cabelas last year, and upgraded it with all stainless steel hardware. We have used it quite a bit during the hotter months here in Kansas, have been out in some rain showers and stayed pretty dry. We also like to fish at night, and is perfect for keeping the dew off of us. We've even slept on the boat overnight underneath it, and have not woke up with damp clothes or blankets. I would recommend it if it will fit your style of fishing. It certainly is a must for us because of the UV rays.

I would strongly suggest you try to go and have a look at some friends boats that may have a bimini. I inquired on here and got some great advice......but I knew I needed to go and look at some boats with a bimini to see how long I thought I wanted it to be......to be able to stand up under it or not......as I said the lower the bimini the more shade. They are not easy to fish under.....I knew that gong in as I am a single pole casting guy. I can make it work but it is still difficult to fish under it. I don’t fish in the rain anymore and I really didn’t buy it for that. After owning it for a while I mostly use it when fishing in the hot sun.....I will raise and lower it several times a day just to get a break from the heat.....it really makes a difference to get in the shade for short breaks and is raised and lowered in a minute or less.

    Regards
