    Default Replacing seals behind prop

Noticed today that I have some oil leaking from behind my prop. Have watched a few YouTube videos and think that I can do it. When ordering, what do I look for name wise? Will probably get them from Ebay. It's a 50 go Johnson 2 stroke 90's model. Also, if there are any tips to pass along I would appreciate it.

If it has flow thru exhaust the oil you see could be from unburned oil that is coming out of the exhaust housing. Check your lower unit oil and see if it is milky looking. If it is not then don't worry about it. I would buy factory seals from a dealer. If it is for sure lower unit oil then you should replace the carrier seals and o rings

I drained the oil in the foot and I did get water out with oil. I was wondering why it would leak because I have never noticed it before, and it has been sitting there for a good two months.

The second pic is a good one showing the black oil that I saw on the floor.

Cant I replace the seals by leaving the lower foot attached and getting it out around the prop shaft?

And I have no problem ordering from a dealer, especially if they help me replace it.

If you have never done one before I would let a mechanic do it that way if it leaks it is in there ballpark. I am not that familiar with omc products so maybe someone else can help.

Remove the thrust washer in order to view the propshaft seal's condition. How long ago since the lower unit oil was changed?
    I'd rather be fishing.
