I will run over an area I think I may want to try with my sonar, down image or side image. If I see what I’m looking for, I’ll throw a marker buoy in the vicinity of the structure or school but never directly into if it. I’ll then fish the area and pick up the marker before moving to next spot.

I start fishing off the school to let them settle down after I find them. I only have sonar and usually fish green so I just ride over waypoints and spots until I see enough to fish for. As you fish more you'll get a feel for what you're looking for. A big thing to help to is in the summer when you can push or pull jigs/cranks see the fish on the fish finder then catch them you'll know what to look for. A lake with a lot of crappie like green helps you on learning technikes and your equipment like fish finders and stuff.

Then when you go somewhere like Cumberland and you can catch them consistently you know you are on fire. I fish green a lot :-).

Yeah ... but Green is 8,000 acres & Cumberland is 65,000 acres, so Cumberland is basically 8 Green River Lakes in size.

I like spider rigging over well defined channel edges. Those channel edges hold old stumps as well as structure which fisherman drop. As you travel these edges, weave in and out, go out over the channel then in till your on top. As you make your turns the bait will rise and fall and cause strikes. I never put my trolling motor on continuous and run a straight line. Make them minners do a little boogy.

My hardest part is remembering to pick up my buoy marker before I leave the spot!!

As you gather waypoints of structure over time, subsequent riggin trips thru the same area allows "sneaking" up on the structure ...
