Man im still on the fence. I guess I need to decide if its really going to help me find more fish. I really wish I could see a non mega unit and see if it shows enough detail to be satisfied with. I usually troll weather its for crappie or catfish. Bigger screen (12")or Mega in a 10"

Here is my opinion, as you learn to use them and you really want the absolute most out of them with out doubting anything other than what your seeing here to me is the $$ difference , The Dedicated Di in the same transducer. Once I found out that a si unit had to re write the di picture that drove me in sain just knowing it may not be correct ( although I know it's pretty darn close ) I didn't want the " middle man" re doing something so I had to have a dedicated di unit on my tm now I'm wanting SI back on my tm and with the new mega units having both it is perfect without a doubt I would take the mega.

There is also there is also the fact that the G1 units are a generation older and will not be supported with software updates/enhancements as long. To me it is no contest .... I wouldn't spend money on the old technology when this new technology is available and so much better....just not a good investment.
The only reason I can think to get the older units is if your budget won't stretch enough to get the new mega units. In that case, something is better than nothing.

Ive never been the type to jump in a buy the best lol I always bought the in between , I guess because im cheap. I use a 998 I bought back in 2013 & have a 788 I bought around 2011 . I want the mega , but my cheap self says go mid stream and use the extra money for other things or a bigger 12" screen. Will my 998 or 788 be of any use with the helix mega . I know ill keep one of them for 2d on plane. Will the non mega helix be out of date in 2 years . Will the mega be outdated in 2 years ? How fast is the technology moving. This is a big decision to me.

Outdated in a year or two.......sure they will. But if you wait on technology you will be waiting forever. Maybe because of my career.....40 years in the missile.....radar business, I have always bought the latest. To me the only reason to buy old technology if it is a budget issue. Most of us have a level we will...or can spend. I have a Helix Mega......but had I been able to afford it I would have the Solix. My thing is “”Buy once cry once””.

I haven't looked at the solix or onix , ive seen a used onix 10 si for $1500 are these units better than the helix , seems to me all the Buzz is over the helix mega now. Is it because of the price?

I have to say, the pics posted by users of the Helix Megas especially alphahawk’s, sucked me in to getting a helix mega 9” and as easy as they are to setup and run, the pics are so friggin clear and crisp and detailed, they blow me away. Seriously thinking of getting a bigger helix mega for the front of the jon boat and just getting rid of the others I have been using as no comparison. I don’t network, or tie the unit to run with a trolling motor, or WiFi, or even see the need for a external gps for my needs in fishing. Bigger with more bells and whistles drives the price as the 9 inch is 1300.00 and solix 15 inch is 3500.00. So pick what you think you will get the most out of. DI has same output as Si both are 1.2 MHz 3 Times the power of the rest of the depth finders for these great pics as hummingbird says.

you will not find anybody selling any cheaper than the suggested list price of 1699.00 for a 10 inch. Only savings you will get maybe is no charge on sales tax and free shipping. Check around but check with bbg marine.
