My terrova shaft was approximately 48 to 50 inches long. When I would be in the back of the boat, any hint of wind or wake would turn my boat. By lengthening the troller shaft to 60 inches, this gave it a deeper and better bite requiring a little less juice and better tracking.
I hope I explained that adequately. If not, just holler at me......

Leverage plain and simple, longer shaft deeper in the water means more time on your batts.

Good info, I have a 60", however I don't run it that deep. The leverage thing makes perfect sense.
I am guessing as long as it's below the bottom of the boat, the advantage is minimal to go deeper?
