Nice video and report. Do you use same color jigheads? I'm trying to learn this jig pulling. I seem to catch more on red head jigs.

I vary my jig head color but favor blaze orange, hot pink and black. I've heard some say that the jig head color doesn't matter and I really don't know whether it does or not. I know others who are firmly convinced that color does make a difference. Jim favors red, I think Curtis Hobbs likes orange, Spiderman has his favorites and I think I see Jody Stephens fishing a lot of hot pink jig heads. I pour and paint my own and I get enjoyment out of making them pretty. I probably have 10 different colors of powder paint. If you have confidence in something you are doing then go with it. I would like to hear feedback from others on this subject. I often wonder what crappie with those big eyes really do see. Oh by the way, I like glitter on jig heads and tails. On the other hand I catch a lot of fish throughout the year on a black jig head and a blue/black/char tail. But again I.

I have had days where I caught fish on only one jig head color and they didn't hardly hit the other colors. I usually troll with 10 to 12 rods out. So I am convince that jig head color matters. On spring days when the fish are biting you could use any color and catch a limit of crappie. To me color matters especially in very muddy water. You can catch a lot of crappie in muddy water if you fish it. You have to not worry about the raccoons walking across the water and just fish the mud. LOL.

Yes I do.

I think the color of the jighead does matter, but not in the sense of the fish like the color. I think the fish see a "contrast" between the color of the jighead and the body. The color of the water, it being sunny or overcast, dusk or dawn, or the middle of the day effect how the color of the jighead and the jig body relate to each other. I think that is why some days you catch fish on one color combination and other days you catch them on a different color combination. How many times have you been crappie fishing and have all your poles rigged with the same jighead and jig body? If your like me, you probably have 4 or 5 combinations of jigs out at any given time, you find out what the fish are hitting, then change your poles over to that particular jig.

I agree with what Spiderman is saying. I also found days where the type of jig head mattered. I was catching nothing on round heads and I switched and put some pony heads out with the same curly tails on and the fish started hitting like crazy. The only thing I can think of was that the way the head moved through the water or displaced water made the crappie hit the pony head and they weren't liking the round head, and these were the same color heads too. Usually it is a lure style change or a color change. If they are not biting you never know until you try all the stuff you have. It gives you something to do when the fish aren't biting too. I wish I could troll 50 rods at once. LOL.
