I had similar problems in years past. Bought an Engel this year and haven't lost a minnow. When I get home I put it in the garage frig with the aerator on low speed. The batteries last about 3 days on low.
If we did what was most important in life there would be a shortage of Bibles.................and fishing poles

Try mixing a tablespoon of sea salt in about 20 oz of water and wash it down with that.....empty it out and let dry
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

You know them insulated plastic tanks with wheels on the bottom that you see in gas stations that are full of ice and drinks. I have one of those for a vat. It's a bit of a hassle but after each trip when I get home I put my minnows in that. I have water, an aereator and baitsaver in it. I drain the water off my minnows before I put them in there. If I go the next day I just go get however many I want. If it's 5 days before I go, I still have minnows. I have had up to 3lbs in it for several weeks. I too use an Engel bait cooler and keep the aereator going on high and have a frozen water bottle I put in there to keep it cool. The warm temps will kill minnows quick! I had 12 dozen in my 19qt (4.75 gal) Engel and my buddy had 8 dozen in his uninsulated 5 gal bait bucket. 75% of his minnows died by the end of the day, I lost 6 minnows all day. They are expensive but they do their job. If u do start using a vat at home be sure to change out about 1/3 of your water every day or 2 and store them in the shade.

Gave the bew bubbler a test run, and it worked like a charm, with only one setback. It ate up two batteries in about six hours... So, back t the store, for the one that runs on 12v, at four times the price... It's supposed to be the one... Guess, we will see!

My barrel is on the covered back deck. The bad thing is if it's 82 degrees then the water in the barrel is 82.
I placed a 50 ft coil of 1/2" plastic hose in the frig. Pumped out of the barrel and drains back in just above the water. It would drop the water temp 5 degrees at most. Things in the frig weren't very cold.
I placed a 15 ft coil of 1/2" plastic hose in the freezer. Pumped out of the barrel and drains back in just above the water. It would drop the water temp 20 degrees. Things were melting in the freezer frig wasn't cooling.
You don't see them much anymore. The heavy wire frame with multi sided styrofoam liner inside it. Minnow Life or something like that for a brand name. I found a dealer that sold the styrofoam liner with lid for a dollar, 6 to a case, so I bought a case. They sit in a 5 gallon bucket.
Academy Sports has a lid to fit the bucket with a flip service hole in the center, a hole for your air line. They were a dollar a couple of years ago so I bought a few.
Thanks joekiller thanked you for this post
