    Default Culverts?

I have always heard one could catch a mess of Crappie when conditions are right. What are those conditions? Water running in or out? Fish up stream side or down steam? Etc?

I am a novice fisherman and any help would be appreciated. I work in agriculture and have access of drainage ditches running into White and Cache rivers.

Any jokes about sitting on a bucket will be over looked.

Crappie chase shad and shad are attracted to flow. So I would look for llirigation/drainage ditches that flow into the White and Cache Rivers off of fields (down stream of pipes). Jackie has mastered this technique and might share some of secrets. You never know what you will catch in some of these areas.

    Default Culverts?

Ive caught them around culverts when the MS River would rise into or fall out of the fields and sloughs behind the levee. I've caught them with the water moving in both directions. It seems crappie never get trapped much in the backwater holes or below the spillways when they work on them. They move out fast which ever way the water is flowing. Culverts are just funnels or pinch points that they gather up around when on the move.

Here drains below waterfowl impoundments or even some bridges on creeks make pinch points and flows attract fish .

One of the earliest things around here are people gathering around spillways and creek crossings where a duck pond is being drained. Current definitely makes it good. Shad also run up in there.

We fish the drain pipes the year around.Usually better after a little rain!!We like 1/16-1/4 oz roadrunners,Black/chart,white chart./2 -2 1/2 in crappie tubes in 1/16-1/4 oz inside tube jigheads.2-4 lb test line med-lite to med 7-9 ft rod's. One of these will work.We find the crappie in what we call a little "eddy water"where they fish can get out of the current around these pipes or drainage ditches.Anything that deflects current log, rock ect will hold fish "crappie"Some times the crappie are their and some times their "crappie are not!Just a trial and error deal.Keep searching until you find one that has fish.Fish drain pipes/culverts is like a box of chocolates never know what you will ketch!!Wear your life jacket be safe and good fishing!Name: 0219161707-01.jpg
