Default Wet cell batteries toward front of boat ...

I'm contemplating moving my TM batteries up under my front deck (to help level the attitude my boat sits in the water) ...

Just how much more abuse will the batteries take from mounting this far forward in the boat ...??

Does pounding abuse shorten the battery life ...??

Is there such a thing as a sealed battery anymore to keep the acid from sloshing up against the "pop-in" caps ...??

You can find them in agm. Pricey! I ran a Universal Battery type in the front of my War Eagle with no problems over 3 years. You know how rough Ky Lake gets. Mine took a licking and kept on ticking. I guess it all depends on the quality of the battery.

I thought about doing this on my Pondtoon, but the battery will not fit in the seat box. I wouldn't mount them outside the seat box as this would take up too much floor space.

I have a stick steer boat with one of the trolling batteries mounted up front. The batteries are two years old..the boat is two years old. I put about 25-30 thousand miles a year on towing the boat and 4-7 days a week on the water when the weather is good. I have one of the two trolling batteries going bad...yep it is the one in the bow. It takes a beating much more than the others. Of course I will replace both. They are cheap batteries and I thought I was not getting my moneys worth out of them. But got to thinking that I fish a lot more than the weekend fisherman....and I have got to tell you the 25-30 thousand miles I pull the boat is just as bad as the beating on the water if not more so. Our roads are awful and that puts a pretty good beating on the batteries also.

Questions for someone who is getting 5 years of battery use out of a normal wet cell battery. What group size...what brand...how often do you fish.....how many tow miles on your boat each year. Telling me you get 5 years out of set off batteries tells me nothing....other than they lasted you and the way you fish for 5 years. So what are the particulars of the 5 years of your battery use.

I run 2 series 31 deep cycle batteries in my 1648 inside the prebuilt live well under the seat with the side of the live well cut out as the batteries are 13.5" long each and never had a problem beating them up on waves and the road. No leaks or battery damage and the boat planes and rides better with the weight dispersed up front. I would say, go for it.

Rickie, think about the pounding batteries take in a big truck running 120,000 miles a year down the road.. We used the same deep cycle battery in 29 and 31 we use on our trolling motors. Would usually last around 3-4 years. Now that's for cranking and acc's plus being recharged by alt when running. Not to say you wouldn't have one fail but out of a 800 truck fleet probably 12 failures a year from shorted plates.

I use walmart 27s. No room in the hold fro anything bigger. I replace them every 4 years. Usually Wal Marts are either made by Exide or Johnson Controls, whoever bids cheapest. Manuf name is written on the battery along with the date of manufacture.

Fish 6-12 times a month,12 months a year.Thirty minutes to an hour pull to boat ramp and make 4-5 trips to miss every year.aI have a 24 volt setup in a compartment up front and and 24 volt setup in my rear battery compartment with two plugs up front where I can unplug and plug into the other when one setup runs down.I single pole, spiderrig, longline, and pull crankbaits and my batteries take a beating.I have single poled in the wind and had to have the trolling motor on 7 just to stay on the bed.Pull cranks all day and run down two 24 volt setups then I run the big motor to finish the day.Boat is a 17ft aluminum bass setup with carpet with a 70 pound powerdrive ipilot.I buy 27 series batteries at Walmart and have always got 4-5yrs out of every set,but I check water religiously and take care of them,no problemsWet cell batteries toward front of boat ...
