Met up with my ole bud Tim from Louisiana this morning in Edgewater. Headed out promptly in search of some friends to invite home for future dinner. Had a beautiful morning but nothing willing inshore at the bridges or docks so we headed for the inlet to try the jetties. Looked like a parking lot but found a spot on the tide line above the ditch and set up to see if any players. After about 20 minutes and no action for us or the other boats I looked east of the inlet tide line and saw the ocean was flat and we picked up and headed southeast to a reef. Found some Sheephead willing to play along and picked off 4 keepers and a barely legal weakfish. Decided to head in and try the creeks since it was 2 hours into the incoming tide and sun was out hopefully warming the water enough for the bruisers to play. Picked off another Sheephead and underslot trout. Saw several reds and a few snook but could not make em bite. Had a fun day with an oldfriend and hopefully he will venture back again.
Final tally on the table was 2 -18" sheephead 16" sheephead 15" sheephead 13" sheephead and a 13" weakfish. Wishing safe travels for my friends on their journey home. See yall on the water.

Nice day to be on the water for sure, a little chilly to start but it warmed up nice. Glad the sheepies came out to play.

Glad you were able to put your friend on some fish Mike, plenty of tacos and poor man's lobster style eats there, was a could'a been day for myself, 2 blue runners in the 1st 5 minutes for cut bait, then 2 gator trouts, both lost while grabbing net, put on steel leader & they wouldn't touch it, maybe some higher test fluro leader next time, once flow slowed, struck out at bridges seeking the sheepshead bite.

I am using 20lb flourocarbon leaders. Have not had any chew through except for bluefish. And yea, nuttin happening with wire trace. Gotta tell ya, picked up 2 of the 7' medium lite Penn Battle II combos, spooled em up with 15lb Superslick8 and man them are some saweet tools. Bout doubled my casting distance over the Browning Aggressor LTD medium rods I been using. Nice being able to pitch a freelined live shrimp about 70'.Originally Posted by Speck Detector

Yes, need to double up the fluro = been using 10# for leader off 10# spiderwire....the equipment been fine, very pleased with the drags on all..2 penn fierce on ugly stiks, Pflueger, Shimano, & Lewes

No sir, using Octopus hooks size 1/0. I do not use circle hooks except lines I have out soaking or unattended with a big fresh livey on it and a baitfeeder reel. Pretty much use them Octopus hooks for everything, really like the short shank, hides the hook good on a live shrimp, can barely see the hook aside from the horn on the shrimps head. Gamakatsu has some wide gap Octopus that I drop down to a size 1 on. Been using the Offshore Angler hooks from BPS and find them very sharp. The salt is a strong mistress, amazing catching a 10" fish that rips drag on a medium outfit with about 4lbs drag tension at the reel or not knowing if your next bite will be 10" or 30lbs.
