Wish I did have. I don't get mine on the water enough to play with it a lot. I forget stuff from one outing to another. (a geezer trait?) You might ask on the electronics forum about the downscan setting. There are some Garmin pros that visit that forum.

Changing frequency will widen or narrow the cone angle. The lower frequency shows a wider cone angle. The higher frequency is best in deeper and rough water. The lower frequency shows a better fish arc than the higher one. Also on side view, the range goes out to 150 ft. If you set the range at max distance, you have to increase the brightness to get detail 150 ft away from the boat and it tends to white out the closer returns. I have found if I run the sideview range no more than 100 ft, it is much clearer. I leave mine from 60 to 80 ft most of the time depending on water depth.
I did think of a tip today. I had the boat to a local lake re-doing the trailer bunks. After I finished I decided to go look around the lake. I don't leave my Garmins on the boat but carry them in a soft bag. When I was popping them in place I was having a difficult time securing the one on the console. My upfront one is very solid. I noticed last year that the 93SV on the console didn't seem as secure as when new. One of the things I really like about the Garmins is the easy on - easy off snap in feature. (They may have changed that on newer models) I heard last year of a guy that bought one and one his 2d or 3d trip hit a bad wave and it popped off overboard. So, if they are still that way you need to secure them somehow. I decided to move my 93SV to the left side of the console so if it comes off it will go into the floor instead of overboard. When looking at it this evening a side benefit will be that I can see it better from the passenger seats in my Lund. I fish from one of them more and more since I put the Xi5 on.

When you get them set the way you want them, they are pretty impressive. Just takes some time on the water.
Machine LIKED above post
I was certainly impressed on my first day out with one. This is an old screenshot straight out of the box with no adjustments. It's even better now that I have played with it some. (Course, this is Gaines Creek.)

Well I now officially have 2 Helix 9's and I'll be dayum if I didn't have to send them boy back to Humminbird for being bad out of the box. First SI 9 had one of the card readers bad, second one DI 9" had 3 buttons (power and two buttons above it) not lighting up. They are great with customer service and turn around, but when one spends over $1700 in electronics, you'd expect them to work out of the box the first time. Once they work, they're great. Now have my 9 DI speaking with my 9SI and that's pretty neat. Any one else have issues with Humminbird? Rod almost had me changing to Garmin.
