Default Jig Clamp ? and new Stumble Bee Jig I tied

Firsty, I picked this jig clamp up at a yard sell. The shaft clamp screw is broken off, so I just used my pcb vice to hold the jig clamp. Works fine. I cleaned up all the rusty parts too.

My question is what is the round spring on the clamp for? It is rusty, so can I get a replacement or is it really needed?

This body, I first made a solid hot pink chenille then overlapped it with a fine black chenille. Better finish on the head this time too. I think. I don't have any head cement, so I just used some waterproof super glue.

This is jig number 2. Nothing to do today except wait for the Brady Bunch.

Probably is the spring for holding materials while you tie. Some patterns have things you tie in the tail and leave hanging there until other things are done before needed, but also if you don't tie them in early, there is not a way to do it later. Then once it's needed you tie it in as you wish. Example is maybe on this jig if you wanted a Hackle wrapped around the body to the head then tied off there just before you finish. The little spring can hold it out of your way while yo do the things necessary before that Hackle is tied in.

hope that helps and is not confusing, lol!

I didn't know what the thang was for or a name. After Skips explanation I was able to find a Utube video on "how to".

Thanks again. I'm sure I have plenty of more thanks stored up to give out..

Just go to a hareware store and take the spring with you. Match it to something close,or cut one to length.

I have one that came with mine and it rides the box. There if I need it kinda thing. Good looking jig Tom, and a good find on the vise. All you'll need for a while. Did you get a Bobbin? Igotta look thru my stuff and see what I have and if'n I have doubles of some I'll pass em along. Do you have any Chartreuse or white Maribou? I have a lot of both.

Yes. I found a bobbin with ceramic tips. I ordered 1 spool of natural color Kevlar thread. It is pretty tough. The bobbin sure holds the spool mighty tight though.

Usually you can bend the bobbins out a little or in depending on if you want it tighter or looser. However I am not sure what kind you have?

This link is the bobbin I purchased from Ebay. Looks like a good beginner tool.

Yes you can just pull apart a little from the holding ends (White Part) and it will lessen or you can pinch the ends together as a little over do and make it tighter.
