When are y'all going out again/habitat day. I'm back on land now. Never fished the big four but figured trying to make a few work days would give me a good lay of the land with people who know the lake. Plus ya know, putting a little effort back into the fishery and all! Haha.

MidMsAngler, we have a "Habitat Day" thread going with all the info needed, I hope. We're adding to it as info comes to us.

Steve, we talked with him, but we were mostly wanting to get the tops and run. We both had other things to do so we didn't talk much.
We can cut again this saturday with we wish. We'll need 2 or 3 trailers to store the stakes and tops on until we can use them or drop them off at a location.

I stopped at the COE office to get the gate unlocked at Pleasant Hill ramp. They were having a meeting, must of been 40 trucks in the parking lot, all with COE tags. They could break from the meeting long enough to unlock the gate at Plantation Point. I haul my load to Bayou Point on the south side of the lake. The gate was locked when I came by.

Wasn't bad at all, I thought it would have been at least two trips, but the tops compress nicely. We could have had it done it an hour, but we tend to jibber or jaws a bit... why not, lol? Landowner did show up, was as proud as a peacock we came back to haul them tops off. Said the last bunch just left them tops and he bout burnt the house down burning the big pile, says when they dry they go off like a match. He had more stories of catching big slimers from Tunica to Butla.. we got him ready to go fishin again, said he ain't been in 3 years.. so yep good people

I bet a fishing trip date set up with him invited would make his day. Joel, you might get that scamp at a super good price with 2 invites.
We left him a pile last time we cut, but not as big as either pile. I think we made one more cut on most of the boo. If he waited until it dried, yep it was a match.

Steve, Joel, the lake isn't as low as it was when we worked Crawford's point a few years ago. If they drop it fast it will be a mud hole when we are there for habitat day. Might be best to work with what we have where we can. Cut again later in the year and do some drops in the areas we want. We can collect anchors and tying material not used or tell them what we will need for later.

Works for me, Clayton said they had plenty of stakes for everyone, said he ordered 3500 more then he planned on originally cause they got such a good deal on them. I will start saving our concrete cores and smaller saw cut pieces for anchoring

I'll go back and cut 50 9 ft tomato stakes this week. See how long the tops are from one cut and how they ride in the truck, may get 2 cuts. I'll haul these tops to Enid saturday for habitat. I'm thinking of driving 2 stakes in the ground to form an "X" with 8 or so inches above the cross. Tie them together and lay a few tops in it with as much as can hanging over the X. Tie the tops to the stakes and anchor their bottoms to the ground. Drive more stakes on both sides of the tops to cross over. That will help them from being washed away from the waves.
I'll go again next week to get 50 more for Nader.
