    Default Reelfoot Question

I was thinking about coming down to try Reelfoot in early April but have heard grumblings of the crappie fishery struggling. Is this true or just people hitting the lake at the wrong time (weather conditions). Can anyone give some advice? Thanks

In early April you should hit it pretty good and the fishing has been good. We have caught more 2 pound fish on Reelfoot this year than I have in a while.

Thanks Lake King. Bringing my wife down and we are renting a boat so will be fishing single poles around the cypress and weed lines. Just married last year and just getting her into crappie fishing so I was/am leery of bringing her down if the fish populations are down and there won't be much action. Any hints you could give would be much appreciated. Pm me

Just an FYI: if you are wanting to get on some fish and get your wife interested, I would suggest getting a guide.

I thought about that. Scheduled for 4 days. Don't want to foot the bill for 4 days of guide service. Need to ask for a guide that won't be spider rigging. I will be renting a boat and the other three days will be spent around trees and weed lines.

I would get a guide for the first day, and like you said one that will single poling. Then the next three days you will know where to fish at. I think you/ her will be much happier with the success rate if you did that. I jave fished that lake about 6 times, and the only time I have caught a mess was when I got a guide.

Plus one on the guide. Those guys fish almost every day and know what is going on with the lake at the moment. It just takes too long to figure it out on your own starting from square one. I have fished that lake a couple times. I consider myself a pretty good stick and have a pretty well equipped boat but that lake left me looking like a rookie compared to what the guides were bringing in.

Thanks Ol Yank. I will definitely get a guide at least one day.
