    Default jig head paint recommendation

Thanks to Spaceman for putting me on to buying jig heads in bulk from Busters in Huntsville...picked up some 100 1/16th oz #2 sickle head jigs this morning. I don't mind fishing them unpainted but some times I feel that chartreuse, red or pink on the head helps catch fish. I am looking for recommendations for I guess powder paint to paint some jig heads with....type, brands and places to purchase.

    Thanks,
    Flintcreek

I like the Pro-Tech paints. You can buy them at Cabela's or on line at a bunch of different shops. If you buy several colors the prices on line with shipping is your best bet.

Pro-Tec and my local tackle shop has it just as cheap as I can order it online for.

What they said. I also use an alcohol burner to heat heads before dipping. A whole lot easier than lighter. They have all kinds of these burners on ebay.

Good luck Flintcreek. I just use them plain. I did read a thread some time ago that baking in an "old" toaster oven cures and lasts longer than just heating the head and dipping. Not sure if this is truth or myth. Maybe someone like litewirehooker can give you some advice on what works best.

That appears to be the successful means of making the paint more durable. Even though I don't do this. Thanks for jumping in.

I use a hot air gun to heat heads before dipping in powder. They are real cheap at Harbor Freight.

Here you guys go. This is a link to curing times and heat for different color powder paint. 350 good all around temp. The heating causes a chemical reaction that hardens the paint.

My opinion only but I quit heating mine after painting seemed like a waste of time they held up just as good skipping that step.
