    Default Has anyone tried Bistineau?

I drove down to the Port o Bistineau today, The channel appeared clear but no one fishing. I'm going to be off all next week and wanted to venture out a little. Usually this time of the year it will be full of boats even on a weekday. If anyone know of a spot to go on any lake near Shreveport that you don't have to know well to find fish to do a little drifting please chime in. We used to go down to Huxley Bay on Toledo and Johnson's Ranch on Caddo. I just don't want to waste a whole day if it ain't happening there. Thanks

Their Facebook page leads one to believe the bite has been slow. They have posted a couple pictures of a few being caught but no one just killing the crappie.

    Hey Rusty,
I live in Shreveport and I haven't of any particular lake being on fire yet but I'm waiting on LOP or Grand Bayou to turn on because I prefer quality over quantity most days but these two bodies of water are hot, you get the best of both worlds. I don't know a lot of Toledo Bend but would love a report on where to go. But if you don't have a lot of time I would try Cross Lake, if you hit the twin bridges they do pretty good this time of year. I caught 15 in 20 minutes about 2 weeks ago hitting docks around Barron's Landing, particularly the big grey boat house as you head back to the main lake using the Bobby Garland blue Ice swimmer shad with a pig head tipped with a crappie nibble. All of those boat houses produce but some or better than others, if not hitting there try Flemming Park and the boat houses in Willow point, they're all prime winter spots and Good Luck Brother!

Thanks for the tips. I haven't ever tried swim baits around docks before. Are you talking about the boat road into Fleming park.

Yeah Bro, I'm talking about the boat rd, the channel runs through there, and food for thought, if they're in Fleming Park then they're in PawPaw's Bayou as well. However, me and Cross have a love hate relationship! When the fish are biting there's no other lake a prefer to be on but when they're finicky they're finicky and I hate those days. With that being said I have never been and not caught at least one under those docks.

It's been my experience that when there is too much current in pawpaws they shut off. Can you get under twin bridges in a bass boat and fish?

Yeah that's right, you almost have to have perfect conditions in PawPaws but when you do it doesn't take long to get a limit! yes you can get a bass boat under the twin bridges, when I go there lately the color combo that works for me has been BG blue Ice swimmer with pink 1/16 jig head, I have caught anything smaller than 12 inches out there lately. The water was around 10 fow and fish was suspended about 3- 4 fd!

I hit Bist Friday 12/16. Launched from port at daylight. Water temp 50 and a bit stained. Only caught 8 crappie, but 4 were right at 2 pounds. Very slow bite. We were practically only boat out there. It's not happening yet, I think the water a bit too dingy. That place really gets going with cold clear water. Another couple weeks in my opinion. Was spider rigging in areas that are right for this time of year. I will probably hit it again right after Christmas. Will let you know. Cypress is best bite going right now.
