It needs to be mounted as close to the transducer as possible. That way when your marking a way point it is going to be in the closest proximity to your reading. The farther away from ducer the larger your search area is going to be when you go back to find it. Also you need to get a cheap hand held compass and check your mounting location for magnetism. It needs to be mounted in a area with the least amount of magnetism so as not to affect your readings. Maybe Rickie will see this and can give you a better understanding or explain nation than mine.
