I don't understand what you are saying BrettW. Explain it to me.

Garmin doesn't connect to any trolling motors (that I'm aware of) via GPS if that's important to you

Just saying I loved the side imaging of the Garmin and the down image was poor, only my opinion
I ended up with Lowrance HDS9

Have you seen 1st hand the Garmin down images?
If it had a separate and dedicated down image transducer like the Lowrance it should be fine.
But it has to have a dedicated piezo, in addition to piezos that are for side images

The newer units come with an improved transducer. I love mine. I've only used lowrance since the old paper graphs. The speed of the processor is faster. You can create your own maps with a blank chip. Btw- panoptics transducer is an everyday low price of $999.00 at cabelas. The premium chip is awesome. $200.00. They have one of each at cabelas in Greenville right now.

Thanks for the info REELDAWG. I am afraid the transducer will have to wait for a while.

New unit came in today and if I get a break in the rain tomorrow I will get the tracker out of the water and start installing it. The $1500.00 dollar transducer comes with 3 d which I don't need and the regular transducer is $1000.00. That will have to wait.
Price is the same or less then compared to lowrance. I did a lot of research trust me. $850 for the garmin 7" with features that were $1200 in the lowrance model. I've never owned a garmin until this unit. I've always thought their coastal mapping was better then lowrance but now their doing their own inland surveying. I'm happy with mine. I also thought it was the best value with the most expandable options.
Garmin is excellent equipment and I'd gladly have stuck with it if the down imaging that I experienced was as good as Lowrance,
Garmin side images were better, maps were better,
I think they need to get together with a trolling motor company so you select a way point on the unit and the TM takes you there
