Default Lake Townsend 2 lb 1 oz Crappie

Fished Lake Townsend yesterday. Had the First Mate on board for this trip. Caught 34 crappie, 3 white perch, 4 bass, and 1 warmouth. Longline trolling with jigs. Water temp 64 degrees, cloudy and quite cool with the breeze. Caught some good fish including a 1lb 3 oz, 1lb 7 oz, 1 lb 8 oz, and a 2 lb 1 oz. Lake Townsend has the best quality of fish of any the small city lakes that I fish but does not have big numbers of fish. It can be difficult at times to locate fish. Most of the fish today were in 10-12 ft of water.

The 2 lb fish hit a StrikeKing Shadpole curly tail in Cajun Cricket color. This is a new jig that I just started fishing with last week and caught some of the larger fish on it when fishing Lakes Townsend and Belews. I was looking for a curly tail that was larger than the standard but not as big as the 3 inch size. It is larger than most curly tails and has a larger tail. Nothing like catching a 2 pounder to give you confidence in a jig. I often try new jigs but after a few tries go back to my old tried and true ones but I may have to make a tackle run for some more colors on this one.

A good day on the water with the First Mate on board and catching a 2 pounder.

    Rick

Pretty work Rick and "first mate". However, it's not that new jig that's working.................It's that Lund boat. Proud to have you guys in the Lund family!

I love this boat. Very fishable for longline trolling.

Those 4 fish would have put you in the money in most tournaments if not have won it.

Nice catch. I've have some success using the pumpkin seed and chart curly tail shad pole.
