Nice catch Tim and Mrs.
Congrats.
Hope I can get back to it soon. With these lower Temps, I'm not liking all these projects the wife has me on...lol
Thank a Veteran every chance you get.
Tim, probably my most used method is tightlining. Especially on lake wateree this time of year. In the spring I troll (especially for tournaments). My favorite method is single pole jigging, but I rarely jig any other lakes beside Murray. I'm normally in search of fish when I travel to other lakes and unless there's obviously stuff to jig (like on Santee) I normally resort to a multi pole presentation.
In short, wateree through the winter is a superb tightlining/spider rigging lake. The fish normally relate to the bottom or near it and it's easier to get your baits to them with this method. As long as we don't get any washing rains that muddy up the lake it's generally a very predictable and consistent place to catch a nice mess. It's one of the better lakes in the state to fish IMO.

yep planning to do some tightlining at some point, i was fishing 15ft at the bottom in a cluster of brush someone mustve dumped off an island. i just need to find more locations with unwater cover. Though i have found a big school on the bottom in 30ft well off an island, turned iut to be alot of perch. Caught 10 before i moved as there was any size to the. Tried col creek bridge, not a bite. I need to just take a day and find brush piles to start. I know what your saying about santee, hazards everywhere that looked like they hold fish, unfortunately only drove over the i95 bridge.
Tim congratulations on getting out and exploring the area, the fish are always a bonus! It will only get better when you get more familiar with the layout of each lake. You got more nerve than some of us have. I like Wateree a lot but it is a hit and miss for me a lot of times. Striper wise but I don't chase them like some do! Great pictures and hope you provide us an in depth report each time you go out.![]()
will start providing better reports, seems learning lakes in mn is easier than here, probably because of the vast dnr database of the lakes that tells you everything about the lakes. I think i will need to buy a hd lake chip and a new helix hummingbird with auto chart to help out. Pretty used to constsntly having to adapt to new lakes just to stay fishing. Looking forward to getting back to wylie again.

Go to Dutchman Creek and go past the bridge and you'll find where all the trees use to be, they're now just under the water so be careful. I use to back the trees there and eat them up.
