Spent the last week and a half camping at Hernando Point Campground and fishing Arkabutla. My wife and I watched the MCC weigh in Saturday and then she headed back to Jonesboro on Sunday while the dogs and I stayed the rest of the week and fished. I learned quite a bit about the lake from quite a few folks that I talked to. Had a great week, just me, the dogs, the boat, and the camper. That lake is so full of bait fish that the crappie just have to sit in one spot and the buffet line swims right past them. Found spots where I could catch all the short crappie I wanted but only one or two keepers and those barely 12 1/2". Biggest fish I caught was 14" long and too fat to fit in a B&M Crappie Saver. I caught between 2 and 6 keepers each day, nothing to really brag about, but it was fun being on a new lake and just looking around. Also spent some time playing with the new 10" jack plate I put on the boat and playing with a couple of props. Finally got the boat running at 54 mph with full live wells, full tank of gas, and me and the dogs in the boat, I figure that is pretty good for this big heavy boat with a 150 on it. I'm not good at selfies or pictures of fish when I have to hold the camera and the fish, but I took a couple. Here are some pics. The last pic is the 14" crappie that was too fat for the Crappie Saver.

Arkabutla can be a tough nut to crack and it also appears the lake the lake may be on a bit of a down cycle. We use to fish there some and have caught some real hogs. It sounds like you guys had a good trip. Thanks for sharing the pictures and details.

With a forage base like that things should be on the upswing soon, I would think. Those small fish have plenty of food so they should get some size quick.
