I always have guesstimated how to hang an engine on a boat. I usually eye ball the cavitation plate and gets me close. Here is a better way
Get boat level and measure pad to ground. Next trim motor down level (neutral) trim. Measure from center of prop shaft to ground. Subtract measurements. 3 1/2 " is perfect. Most of the time you can only hit this with use of Jackplate.

You want to set prop shaft center below the pad. Then with a jack plate you cand work up or down for best performance on your hull and prop. The number torch listed is the optimum number for most boat setup's.
I don't think we're allowed to call them "math problems" anymore. I think the more PC term would be a numeric challenge, besides nowadays in school there ain't no wrong answers and in competitive sports there aren't any losers.. no big deal, we just expect them to run the world one day.![]()

Ok, what if you have a huge offset on the bottom of the hull at the back????? This stratos at the bottom of the transom goes the hull goes forward 20 inches or so and then drops down 4 inches or so and then works its way to the front. Got to measure it from where the bottom and back edge of the transom meet, right?

Also you need a number chart and a graph to solve the challenge and then you need to write two paragraphs to explain how you solved the challenge and why your answer is the right answer. And then you need to draw a picture that represents the challenge and how you solved it.
