My first time to Lakeview was in '58. The old store was on a barge tied to the trees. Dad went in a boat to crappie fish, leaving mom and I on the bank to fish for bream. Paid a nickle for a sardine can of worms. Mom paid a dime to fish on the pier and I was free.

First place my dad ever took me fishing as a boy before we moved to MO. Will never forget those memories. Remember renting a boat and catching a ton of fish.

Big money bought it cheap for duck hunting and deer hunting. Guy from kalb equipment is one of the owners.

Funny thing though, deltaduk......I rode over to the lake several times during duck season to see if there was any activity. This was shortly after it was bought. I never saw a duck boat trailer behind the barricade or heard any shots fired. To my knowledge, the ramp off Hwy 61 is the only boat access. Confused

Lots of good times and memories, I have been thinking about some of them since my visit to the lake Tuesday, here is one I would like to share. This is 100% accurate only names have been changed to protect identities, I don't want to embarrass anyone.

The time would have been sometime in mid to late March in 2009. Myself, Marvin and Dave rented a 14' foot boat at the bait shop. Marvin was a pan fisherman to the core and still is, Dave and I were hot and heavy on the large mouth bass. Imagine a single pole (crappie, bream) fishermen on the same boat as two bass guys? I look back and can't ever remember one complaint from Marvin though, he would fish jigs under bobbers and always had a double rig out the other side of the boat trolling when we would move, he caught one every now and again. The day started out very cool, as I tested the water temp by falling out of the boat around 7:30am somehow (only time its ever happened). I still cant figure that one out, one minute I'm standing in the boat and the next I'm in the water looking up at the surface. I guessed the water temp at 58 degrees, I managed to get back in and shivered for awhile thankfully the sun warmed up pretty quick.

We were having very limited success with catching fish this morning. As were fishing around 9am here comes a guy, I will call him Wayne. Wayne was not really a friend, but me and Dave knew him from a construction job that he was a superintendent over. He gave me and Dave a hard time for the most part. We had ran into Wayne a few trips earlier in the bait shop and after striking up an awkward conversation we found out Wayne liked to fish a little every now and again. Wayne had a nice 17' boat with a 90hp outboard and a foot controlled trolling motor. He sure had it better than we did, that's for sure. Wayne ran up on us a trip before on the water, he questioned our sanity for being so far out in the lake with only a trolling motor and went on to tell us there were no fish in the lake. We said that's odd we seem to manage a few every now and again.

Anyway, so this morning he comes barreling in on us and I remember saying, "oh shoot here comes Wayne" to which Dave replied "Darn!!" and Marvin asked who is Wayne? We briefly explained the situation and about that time he was on top of us. He says, how are ya'll making out this morning? I replied, it's been a little slow so far. Wayne then proceeded to inquire to the moisture on my shirt, I told him I fell out the boat and hour or so ago. Wayne laughed so hard it rocked his boat. Neither, of us in our boat thought this was very funny to an outsider so he noticed and let up. Then he says, well I caught about a dozen or so this morning so far. Marvin asked what he was catching? Wayne replied, Crappie!! Now Marvin was all ears, and asked if any size to them? Wayne said yep all keepers and one biggun. This lit Marvin up with great excitement. Wayne says he would see if he could wrestle the big rascal out of the live well and show us. Me and Dave weren't that interested, but figured we would take a gander at the slab. So Wayne goes back to the live well and there is some struggle ensuing and few words like oh, oh, come on big gal, to which I thought we could do without the theatrics just show us the fish. Finally, Wayne managed to pin the fish down and pull it out. He held it up with a great smile ear to ear. While I was trying to figure the words to say, Marvin bust out "Man, that ain't no dang crappie that's a white bass!!" Oh you should have seen Wayne's face, it was instant disappointment and embarrassment and I could have swore I say the same disappointment in the fishes eyes as well, Lol. This really shook Wayne up, he kept asking if we were sure? And then got mad and said he wasn't ever coming back to the darn lake etc. He asked if we wanted his minners that he was going home. Marvin wanted them, but didn't have a bucket. Wayne asked if we had a rubber boot to put them in or something similar? Marvin managed to find a large cup and got him about a dozen minners and was happy as could be. Wayne on the other hand was greatly depressed. I never saw Wayne again after that.

I remember back and all though we was all broke and didn't have two dimes to rub together we sure had some great times! We always had an adventure at Lakeview. If y'all like this one I have others, like the one time I hooked a huge buffalo that was already hooked on a trot line, it was another great memory. If you guys have any stories at lakeview please share them.

They have 2 boat ramps on the other side.
