Post a picture of that bad boy so we can check it out. I have always been curious about those Salter rods but recent posts have me very apprehensive about going through the trouble to get one .

I want to share something I did with a JBS rod. First of all, it's a very nice rod and has to be the lightest out there. At the boat show at the Lamar Dixon complex in Gonzales I bought one of these rods more out of respect for the late great J.B Salter. I took it out for a test drive and right away I didn't care for that little spool attached to the rod by those gold rings. I then looked in my crappie tackle drawers and found a Pflueger Microspin reel. I took the spool off of the rod and taped the reel under the handle at a position where it balanced perfectly. I then shaved a little of the foam from the rod handle where I had the reel taped and snugged the gold rings over each end of the reel support. The reel ended up being attached to the rod handle with about 2 inches left over to the handle end and its a solid fit.
Man is this rod fine!!! I use it with my little finger behind where the reel is attached and the other 3 in front. I think I flip better with the reel at the end. I basically hold the line with my left hand all the time and it seems to work better for me with the reel at the end.
For all you sola pros, check it out on a rainy day and see what you think....maybe that I'm crazy.

Yea, I fished with mine the other day and I didn't like that little reel either. but I love the rod. post a pic of your reel setup. Thanks.
Yea...lets see the picture!! I bought a crappie jiging pole at bass pro and man is it heavy!!
It is not considered a reel (like to crank in a fish) .....it is only a line holder.....it takes a while to get used to it but I like it on most of my Salter poles.....that is my go to pole and I have others that sell for $100 that do not match up to Salter.....I have about 7 or 8 Salter graphite poles.....
