Thread: hummingbird shutting off

If battery is not the problem then it sounds like wiring problems to me not getting enough juice(wire size or short). If the current gets low it will switch itself off.

Check the voltage at the battery at idle.

Had a similar problem and found that the plug inside the bundler wasn't plugging in good. Mine would shut down when I killed the engine. Could also be a bad battery, but if the battery is still starting the main engine, probably not.

Battery just 2 months old felt like plug was in good. What's puzzling to me is that it works fine for long time then when just idling around it will shut off but you can restart it no problem

Check the ground wire on your power plug at the power source. I had similar issues, thinking I had a unit going bad. I replaced it and the new unit did the same thing. Come to find out my ground wire at the fuse panel was corroded. Easy fix but the wife didn't have to know. Got a new unit out of the deal.

Think I may have figured out the problem. Cigarette lighter hot wire had pulled off of stub when the edge of the wire hit the housing it shorted out a 10 amp fuse thinking that when this happened it pulled enough voltage to turn unit of due to low voltage. Any way I put wire back on even used lighter and no blown fuse and everything seemed to be working. Only time will tell. Thanks f or the helpful tips. I'll let you know if this isn't the issue.

Why don't you wire it direct to cranking battery like is recommended?

This is the way it previous owner had it. I just got this boat thursday..I will probably do that, I know I will if this isn't the fix
