The 13" dock
A week or so back I finally found some quality fish holding on one particular dock. Why they prefer that dock is a mystery to me. There is no brush anywhere around it and it is a floating dock so, other than shade there are only a couple of pilings.
First time I cast to it I got a fat 13-14"crappie. Then got 6 more with the smallest being 9". Next time I went, first cast was another 13" fish. Then next trip nothing. So today I took some minnows as back up and after numerous cast with a jig I dropped a minnow beside the dock and out came a 14" one today. I managed one more 10" fish and that dock was done.
The dock is flush with the water line so you can't cast under it, and I am wondering if the fish are holding back under it. It is in 8 FOW.
What y'all think.

If youve caught that many fish then there is no doubt in my mind theyre under it. Any way to sit on a point of the dock in your boat, make the cast down one side of the dock, let the jig sink, and then move the rod to the left (or right) and pull the jig under the floatation of the dock? Now go find 10 more docks holding fish and youre catching limits.

I'm certain they are under it as well Ray. After fishing the edges like you've been doing. Ease in close to the dock. With a long pole in hand, let about 3 to 4 feet of line out the end of it. Either have a jig tied on, or a hook, split shot and minnow attached. Stick the rod about half way in the water and ease it under the dock and slowly swim it back and forth. I like to keep the line near the reel draped over my index finger to aide in feeling the bites, but its not necessary if it's not comfortable for you. No hook set is really needed. Just pull the rod back out from either the side or the front when you feel weight on the other end. I'll guarantee you will put a few more fish in the live well.

I second what Butch and Tim has said. No doubt they are under that dock. Poling under it will put a few more in your box or you can possibly shoot a jig between the floats if there's a small gap.

I have not spotted the "sprinkler dock" yet, Derek. What did he do, put a sprinkler on the dock and turn it on if you tried to fish it ?

Sounds like you found a good dock that holds good numbers of crappie. Like Tim said I would try the rod under the dock to. The dock doesn't have to be out of the water, what you try to do is to run the rod right under the floats and your rod will be under the water. Move the rod slowly just to make the jig move a little and you may be surprised at how it will work for you.

Nice catch Ray, they are most certainly under it in this heat.
You can't catch fish from the couch.
