Default Anyone get any nice size bluegills?

For me crappie will be winding down here shortly.
And it's time to really get my boy out for bluegills. There any lake in pa that have good keeper size gill? On average that are larger than other lakes.
I never seem to get any around 8" or over. its always like 6-7in. For me that's not keeping size. With the bluegill spawn not far away wouldn't mind getting into some decent fish. We like to camp and its perfect opportunity to get to a new lake. Thanks!

I was at Lake Wilhelm fishing from the handicap dock on Tuesday. I was using meal worms, on a bobber in 2' of water right in the rock rubble along the shore line there. There were some smaller ones but had several nice chunky ones 8 or 9 inches. Didn't have my boat but they say they were starting to get some nice crappies in the south end. At Fergie's bait and tackle they said it hasn't really turned on yet. Check the record crappie shown below that came from there!!!

I bank fish so after the crappie move out to deeper water here. I'll be done till ice season starts.
    That's very nice size gills.

Although I haven't fished it during open water, Conneaut lake has the biggest gills I've ever caught thru the ice. Check with Darl Black's guide service. He may give you some info to help you out.

Just got home from fishing the Jamestown area of Pymatuning lake. Mainly fished to see if the big gills are bedding yet. My two favorite bedding areas didn't produce any, so I went searching. Found some in three foot, way in the back of a cove I've never fished before. Caught around forty. Kept twenty that were eight or very close to it. I also caught and kept fifteen crappies but none were over eleven inches. Before I even got home to clean them, my brother called and asked me for the fish. Gone. Even tho I don't have any meat to show for the day in this heat, I still had a fun day. Headed to Linesville in the morning.

I was just checking places out this week not fishing, took the wife on a little vacation trip. Was at the Jamestown launch about 10:30 everyone said not doing very good but I don't think you could have gotten another trailer in the parking lot. Went to that little launch a few miles north of there I think area 41, I've used it some and had maybe two other rigs in there. There were a dozen rigs in there and on the road into it. Can't imagine what it will be like this weekend or if the word gets out that the crappies are biting!!!

Linesville went very well. Me and a buddy fished five to eight foot water and C&R over three hundred fish in two days. They were ripping our bg baby shads to pieces. Almost every color we used put fish in the boat. So many ten to eleven inch black crappies, my arms got tired. Drifted bobbers with 1/16 oz heads and tightlined 1/8 oz heads with 1/4 oz weight above them. Too bad the launch area is shutting down now. Good luck if you make the trip up. Pandanaram launch is the only other launch I've used to get to the stump field and it took almost half an hour to get there with my heavy boat and twenty hp motor.
