Cool First Time Crankbait Report Guntersville

I tried trolling crankbaits for the first time today. I got throughly disgusted having to clean the grass off my line and the baits constantly. Then while pulling in a clump of grass, it started swimming and it wasn't grass. It was a 15 inch crappie. I ended up catching 4 before my batteries died. All were over 14 inches. Mad Cow actually works.

Shot you a PM. I pull cranks a little around GSV. The grass can really be a pain!

Great job!!! That's the fun of pulling cranks, they're all good fish. Unfortunately, the grass comes with the technique.

Yep, a good rain will help clear some of it out. I typically idle around and if the area has lots of floating grass I will move on until I find an area without. It can be a pain, one of the reasons I am looking to night fish a little more this summer (what little I will get to fish).

Where were you trying to pull? Get back up in the BIG creeks, like South Sauty, Lower Town Creek, Browns Creek & pull along the creek channel. I make a "marking run" first with a couple rods out before I put out many more. I save the "route" on my GPS Motor Guide Xi5, plus save the waypoints on my Lowrance with I link. Once I have my "run" saved right, you'll have to edit out your "mistakes" i.e., where you get too shallow & hang grass or structure. I find most of the fish to be right on the creek channel drop off. It's tedious & aggravating to set up the "run" or path, but once you do it, then it's very easy & nice when you retrace. BE sure you LABEL your route & write it down tho!! I forget which route it is what!!!
