I tried trolling crankbaits for the first time today. I got throughly disgusted having to clean the grass off my line and the baits constantly. Then while pulling in a clump of grass, it started swimming and it wasn't grass. It was a 15 inch crappie. I ended up catching 4 before my batteries died. All were over 14 inches. Mad Cow actually works.

Great job not bad at all for your first trip. we need a big rain so they can pull some current i was on the water for a bit this morning eel grass was everywhere![]()
Congrats on the first of many successful trips.
Shot you a PM. I pull cranks a little around GSV. The grass can really be a pain!
Great job!!! That's the fun of pulling cranks, they're all good fish. Unfortunately, the grass comes with the technique.

Yep, a good rain will help clear some of it out. I typically idle around and if the area has lots of floating grass I will move on until I find an area without. It can be a pain, one of the reasons I am looking to night fish a little more this summer (what little I will get to fish).
Hey call if you aren't going to be able to fish your crank areas this summer ,I will gladly do it for you, you need to keep them exercised just send me the google map( big grin)

Where were you trying to pull? Get back up in the BIG creeks, like South Sauty, Lower Town Creek, Browns Creek & pull along the creek channel. I make a "marking run" first with a couple rods out before I put out many more. I save the "route" on my GPS Motor Guide Xi5, plus save the waypoints on my Lowrance with I link. Once I have my "run" saved right, you'll have to edit out your "mistakes" i.e., where you get too shallow & hang grass or structure. I find most of the fish to be right on the creek channel drop off. It's tedious & aggravating to set up the "run" or path, but once you do it, then it's very easy & nice when you retrace. BE sure you LABEL your route & write it down tho!! I forget which route it is what!!!
