    Default Old River Morganza 5/30

Made the first trip with the "new" boat this morning at Old River in Morganza. Water was dropping but I couldn't find many fish. Caught about 15 bream/small bass overall on crickets with only 5 keepers (threw back - wasn't pulling out the knife for 5 fish). Couldn't find any sacs. The river stage is a little higher than I like to fish but should be better in a couple weeks.

First fish in the new boat (only way to go is up) -

Yep it was good just to get back on the water in my own boat. I fished from about 6:30-11:30. I mainly tried bream since I didn't have any luck early with the sacs. Picked up 5 by one tree but the rest were scattered. I'll be out there again soon. Might bring my good luck charms along next time and try to get them to catch a few.

Glad you were able to catch some. Fishing should get better once the water goes down a few more feet

Yes sir, I do better when the river is 17 ft and below.....I was just hoping I could get in on some early action.....I only caught sacs on dead lay downs and one floating barge.

Same here. It's hit or miss when the MS is still flowing in. My best trips were with the stage at 19 ft catching them on the ends of piers and all the way down. If I remember correctly, the MS stops flowing in at the dam around 14-15 ft. One of my dad's best trips recently was with the stage around 25-26 ft. He wore the sacs out on crickets in about 3 feet of water in the woods on the north bank while trying for bream.
