Its the only lure I use now. Crappie/Trout magnet catches everything that swims. I have personally caught(catfish, crappie, bowfin, chain pickerel, bass, warmouth, swamp fiers, all subspecies of bream). I buy other lures now only to use in comparison. Trout magnet colors I use for South GA (Tanic waters) White, Mealworm Gold, Black & Green(Catalpa worm pattern), Purple Redemption. Crappie Magnet Color Black/Chartreuse, Midnight blue, Bison, Blake's Glow. Their double-cross jig heads just simply work. You really have to tug to remove lure for color changes. Use the crappie magnet if you aim to catch quality size bluegill as the smaller ones generally can't fit it in their mouth. I use the smallest diameter 1inch cigar float I can find for any jig head 1/32 oz and smaller. I don't recommend using that size float with the 1/16 oz head and larger crappie magnet body as it is already under 75% of the float and hard to see strikes even with good eyesight. They take it under without a problem and tend to hold on longer for a better hook up ratio.

What #lbline do you guys use? I normally use 4. Maybe they fish better on #2?
IMO nothing will outcast 2lb Nanofil. Not pushing it because the jury is still out on it but at .002dia nothing compares. It is a pain to tie. If I am going to fish water where bigger fish live, 4# Fireline Crystal is hands down the strongest line I have ever seen. Try breaking it with your hands. A 2lb or4lb SOS leader I all I need. If I break off, figure it was the fishes lucky day.

If you don't mind sharing, what is your set up for fishing deep water?

I tried fishing a bison colored trout magnet today for the first time. It is the most boring bait I have ever used to try and catch bluegill. It went like this........1 cast 1 fish, 1 cast 1 fish, 1 cast 1 fish on and on for over an hour.

I was so bored, or maybe I had all that I wanted to clean of the "watch banders" 8.5 to 9.5 inch. This bait kicked my eyes wide open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a hoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!I may have to go back out tomorrow and add a few more to the freezer. No worm dirt on my hands, JUST fish slime.

I am sure he will share his thoughts on this but I have been doing this for quite a while so will give you some ideas. The Trout Magnet was never designed to fish deep water. However since it is just about the only lure I use I wanted to figure out how to make it work in deeper water for Gills...and anything else down there that wants it. So I ordered some jig heads in 1/24...1/16 with an #8 hook. I also have some 3/32 jig heads with a #6 hook....and just recently started using the ThunderHawk Micro Dancer 1/8 ounce jig head with a #6 hook with the Trout Magnet. Now Gills are no longer able to evade me in waters up to 30 feet deep. I cast and count down...vertical jig.....or I will slow drift along weeded points....rocky points, and catch Gills that are holding at about 16-18 feet deep. They kill it....but you do have to find them first. I usually use my sonar in the di mode or I will just drift across places I think they may be. If I catch one in a location I will do the same drift the other way and fish the area until I no longer am catching fish. I am sure there are other ways to do this but this is how I do it. What really excites me about this is I am going to really give this method of fishing the TM a lot of work at Dale Hollow this summer. After catching Gills up there I don't want to go anyplace else.....but of course will. You never hear of anyone fishing Dale Hollow for Gills in the summer. They do go deep, and it is a deep reservoir...but they have to eat. I will be trying this out for the first time up there this Tuesday with my son. This method also works very well around the mooring cells above and below dams. If you are counting down in 20 feet of water with a 1/24 you will be waiting a long time. The 3/32 works much better for this. I use the 1/24 in about 7-8 feet of water....the 1/16 in about 9-13 feet of water and the 3/32 for anything deeper. For drift fishing the TM I use the 3/32 and the 1/8 Micro Dancer head. Those last two jig heads have the #6 hook and are readily available.

I have a rod with that style of slip float, but not that specific one. I use it to quickly adjust depth when out fishing deeper bodies of water which isn't very often in this area of GA.

Stradic FJ1000/2# Nanofil/MajorCraft KGLights AJING-S762 7'6" 2pd EX.FAST. Alphahawk turned me on to this sweet set-up and how to fish deeper water with it.
